Indie Cage Match round 9: 7:30 PM, Sunday, January 15th - UCB East

Ready to get your funny on guys? This Sunday, it’s time for Indie Cage Match UCB East’s second fantastic improv comedy competition this year. In UCB East Indie Cage Match’s extraordinary ninth show, U.S. National Improv team faces off against Veal, and Xan Spencer. So come on out! Sunday, January 15th, 7:30 PM at UCB East, the Beast.

Our Distinguished Weekly Panel (and some fun facts about them)

This week our distinguished comedy vet is Leslie Meisel

 

Leslie Meisel is currently a cast member on the UCBT Maude Team - Charlemagne.

She started studying improv with Martin de Maat at the Second City NYTC. In 2001, she became a cast member of The Second City Business Theatre: NY Company. Her training continued at the UCBT where she performed on two Harold teams: Dr. Awesome & The RRRRRRockets, the Maude UCB sketch team THUNDER GULCH and The Skuntz, Played Joe Cojullio in “Cojullios’ Pizza” and has also performed in Absolutely Nothing with Chris Kelly.

Leslie’s first solo show You Never Know was listed as “One of the best shows of 2005 along side Jersey Boys and Pillowman”. 

2010-2011 she starred in Love Can Suck A Dick…And So Can I! w/ Megan Neuringer as her broken heart. Its a one-woman show (Directed and Written by Megan with Material and Characters by Leslie) - all about how much love sucks a big ‘ol dong. The show was created by Megan and Leslie and had a year long run at UCBT and also sold out at UCBT-LA.

Our hilarious indie darling this week is Alan Starzinski 


Alan Starzinski is an actor, improvisor, and writer living in NYC. He has been taking classes at UCB since June 2007. He has studied under the finest teachers in New York City including Betsy Stover, Charlie Sanders, Shannon O’Neill, Zach Woods, Armando Diaz, Eliza Skinner, Kevin Hines, Anthony King, Neil Casey, and Joe Wengert. He is also the creator and former host of the popular show The Kaleidoscope.

He is a founding member of the Indie team, Fat Penguin and he adores them. He is in love with his Harold team Sandino. He would like to thank his mother for being okay with him dropping out of college. He played a dead gay dude on “Forensic Files” once. Then met a friend of the dead guy’s in a bar and IT WAS AWKWARD!

Veal

Veal is a musical improv group full of really hilarious improvisors.

What does Veal have to say for themselves?

“Veal is a musical improv group that takes the Harold form and mishmashes it with dancing, singing, and jazz hands. They have performed their exciting shows at many festivals and theaters, including the Del Close Marathon, New York Musical Improv Festival, Boston Improv Festival, North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, and the Upright Citizens Brigade, PIT and Magnet theaters.”

Veal is Lauren Adams, James Robilotta, Kristin Aldrich, Abby Holland, Matt Mayer, Susan Pickover, Andy Weiss, and Connor Ratliff

Xan Spencer

Xan Spencer is a funny foursome of UCB trained improvisors.

What they say about themselves:

“Xan Spencer is not the actor, but an improv team named for him, a tribute to ridiculousness, and hilariousness.”

US National Improv Team


The U.S. National Improv team is an all male team with a weekly show at eGarage in Long Island City. Their members are a well known group of performers from around the UCB Community. Come out and see them be hilarious.

The USNIT doesn’t really like to talk about themselves.

U.S. National Improv Team is Daniel Fox, Dan Glaser, Ryan Haney, Aaron Kheifets, Jesse Neil, Dan Silver, and Joel Weidl

Our hosts, Amey and Ryan, will be there, talking, introducing people, and saying things.

ICM NYC assistant Evan Boshi will be there, with fabulous guest photographer Melissa Gomez.
